    DeLonghi Distinta 1.7L Kettle

    An attractive but pricey kettle

What is the DeLonghi Distinta 1.7L Digital Kettle?

The DeLonghi Distinta 1.7L Digital Kettle is a compact-looking kettle with an attractive design. It’s sleek and stylish.

It’s noisy and the lid design is annoying, but aside from that it’s a good kettle. But it’s hard to justify the price tag for a kettle with basic features.

DeLonghi Distinta 1.7L Digital Kettle – Design and Features

The DeLonghi looks good. We tested the matt bronze version but it’s also available in black, white and copper. The shape is quite small and squat, so it comes as a surprise that it has a standard 1.7-litre capacity.

The power cord is a bit on the short side at 70cm though. And while the lid is attractive it’s a bit annoying. You have to pop it off manually, which means using two hands if you want to fill the kettle via the lid rather than the spout.

The lid is also quite small, which means that it’s a pain to reach inside if you’re trying to scrub away limescale, especially when the limescale filter and max level indicator get in the way.

The kettle weighs 1.1kg (jug only) so it’s a little weighty in the hand, but not super heavy.

Features-wise it’s a straightforward kettle though, with no choice of water temperature or keep warm function.

DeLonghi Distinta 1.7L Digital Kettle – What’s it like to use?

Filling the DeLonghi is no problem. The lid is a bit of a pain as you’ll need to use your second hand to pop it off, but the spout is big enough and at the right angle that you can fill via the spout instead.

A small lever near the base turns the kettle on and a little orange light illuminates to indicate the fact that it’s heating.

It took a pretty average 2m32s to boil a litre of water that started out at 14⁰C from the tap. We measured the temperature after 10 mins (83⁰C) and again after 30 mins (67⁰C), both of which are respectable.

However, the DeLonghi was noisy. Noticeably noisier than most kettles we’ve tested.

That said, the spout poured well and the kettle does look good and feels nice in the hand.

Should I buy the DeLonghi Distinta 1.7L Digital Kettle?

Maybe. Its design is lovely apart from the lid. And it does the job fine. But it is pricey for a basic kettle. And it’s noisy.

If you want a high-end kettle consider the beautifully designed Morphy Richards Prism Traditional Kettle or the feature-packed Sage Smart Kettle. Or save money and look at the double wall insulated Tefal Safe to Touch Kettle.

    Verdict

An attractive kettle but it’s too pricey for a model with basic features.
